Eildon Housing plans to submit a proposal to demolish an old Borders College building on Melrose Road in Galashiels and replace it with 46 new homes available for social rent.
The building has been vacant for several years and is in a dilapidated state, necessitating its demolition as part of the project.
According to Nile Istephan, a representative of Eildon Housing, the organization was thrilled to acquire what he referred to as a “key site in the heart of Galashiels.”
He stated that there is a high demand for affordable housing, and the proposal is the next stage in collaborating with the planning department on a range of housing options that meet the needs of the local community.
Istephan added that their investment will generate training and job opportunities for the local area.
If the proposal is accepted, the project will be handled by one of Scotland’s top developers, Springfield.
Tom Leggeat, the managing director, expressed enthusiasm for partnering with Eildon Housing to provide quality housing to those in need in Galashiels.
He stated that they anticipate receiving feedback from the council in the near future.
